Item Details and Description

  • Fabric History/Pedigree: 1950's, Found as a 13 yards(11+ m) roll.

  • Fabric Description: Deadstock(never used), Japanese vintage kimono fabric.

  • Fabric Type: Meisen silk, Light-Medium Weight.

  • Colors: Black background with red and  off-white.

  • Motifs: Mock-kasuri patterns of 1.75 inches (44.45 mm) fuzzy-edged plus-sign shapes which run zig-zag over a checkerboard alignment; also bands composed of red pinstripes create the checkerboard look.; the 'plus' figures are a very common look seen in cotton Japanese ikat(Kasuri), but the checkerboard pattern is distinctive, seldom seen; note: this fabric is NOT Kasuri, but made in a different process in this Fifties meisen fabric.
