Item Details and Description

Fabric History/Pedigree: 1960s piece derived from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by click-pushing HERE

Fabric Description:  Lightweight silk kimono fabric, used to make woman's kimono; fabric patterns on both sides; fabric is a dull orange color background with interwoven tiny fish-scale like matrix throughout (size of elements is each 1/8th inch / 3.17mm), and these are part of the weave and create a textured quality to the fabric; The motifs seem to be stylized renderings of tree and field grass as foreground, done in varying shades of black.
