Item Details and Description
Fabric History/Pedigree: 1960s piece derived from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by click-pushing HERE.
Fabric Description: This is very unusual medium-weight silk kimono fabric, and we're unsure of its original intended usage; It is thick and motifs are elevated in a sort of bas relief fashion, raised and textured above the base of the fabric, one side only; the elevated portions are rendered by very thin lateral fine lines; From a distance, it resembles velour, but is not soft like velour; the color is black background with the bas relief fields being mostly dark burgundy(similar to Hershey Chocolate(tm) color); a few leaves are accents, black in contrast.
Condition: Excellent.
