Fabric History/Pedigree: 1970s piece derived from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by click-pushing HERE.
Fabric Description: Lightweight, slightly translucent silk kimono fabric, used to make woman's kimono; fabric patterns same on both sides; fabric is charcoal-black background with evenly spaced 3/4 inch(19.05mm) wide bands running laterally; these bands are rendered by pinstripes the length of bands and other perpendicular lines and shapes; Also, interwoven in the fabric are irregularly shaped stripes lengthwise throughout; the fabric is textured, slightly rough to the touch due to the interwoven lines.
