Item Details and Description
- Fabric History/Pedigree: 1970's tsumugi (pongee) silk pieces received from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner / reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by click-pushing HERE.
- Fabric Description: Japanese vintage traditional Tsumugi is a pongee type silk-making process using raw silk threads; Interwoven tiny mesh pattern in black and navy blue; looks solid from a distance but in close-up (last image above)and brighter light the pixel mesh look is seen; the fabric is fairly smooth texture, closer to what raw silk feels like; same on both sides; there is 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) on each side, so the width with pixelated background is 14 inches (35.56 cm) wide.
