- Fabric History/Pedigree: 1960's tsumugi (pongee) silk pieces received from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner / reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by click-pushing HERE.
- Fabric Description: Japanese vintage traditional Tsumugi is a pongee type silk-making process using raw silk threads; geometric rectangular shapes composed of 1.5 inches ( 38.1 mm) blocks and diamond shapes within larger figure, large scale checkerboard patterns, 4 groups in piece; this tsumugi is a light fabric (but not translucent), is fairly smooth texture; closer to what raw silk feels like; same on both sides; the figures are evocative of kasuri (ikat) look but are not done in kasuri process.
