Fabric History/Pedigree: Pieces received from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by click-pushing HERE.
- Fabric Description: This distinctive fabric from 1950s a lightweight silk, slightly translucent; designs same on both sides; patterns are of background with large asa motif (hemp, traditional reticular look) and large areas of grapes and grape leaves; seldom seen designs; background color is a rusty-orange with motifs in light tan; Note also that the fabric weave creates tiny lines running at various partial lengths laterally and brighter than surrounding areas; the fabric is slightly textured to the touch, no sheen.
