Fabric History/Pedigree: Pieces received from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by click-pushing HERE.
- Fabric Description: This 1950s piece is a light-medium weight(slightly translucent) mustard-green color background with interwoven groups (3) of overlain rectangles, largest being 5"x 6" (12.7cmx 15.24cm); Weaving of fabric causes a slight striated or pin-lined look to the fabric running lengthwise; Each rectangle has either peonies or rendering of traditional Japanese bamboo fence within; Design colors are soft to medium yellows, tangerines and a few light-blue accents; slight sheen; Designs same on both sides; selvage on both sides (.25"/6.35mm), so actual width of designed fabric is 13.75 inches / 34.92cm; fabric is slightly stiff, resembles meisen.
