- Fabric History/Pedigree: 1970's tsumugi (pongee) silk pieces received from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner / reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by click-pushing HERE.
- Fabric Description: Japanese vintage traditional Tsumugi is a pongee type silk-making process using raw silk threads; large scale checkerboard pattern; this tsumugi is a lighter, slightly translucent fabric but smooth to the touch, no-sheen; Pattern colors: Dark Charcoal background (almost pitch-black, depending on the type of lighting), with 1.75 inches (44.45 cm) bands running lengthwise, as well as lateral smaller bands, all at right angles; intricate pixelation within the larger bands which include flowers; design colors are mainly shades ofbrown and off-white to tan; lateral stripes are burgundy red.
