Item Details and Description
Fabric History/Pedigree: 1960's tsumugi (pongee) silk pieces received from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner / reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by click-pushing HERE.
Fabric Description: Japanese vintage traditional Tsumugi is a pongee type silk-making process using raw silk threads; the pattern is a grid of large (3 inches / 7.62 cm at longest) hexagonal shapes and rectangular shapes (2 inches / 2.08 cm at longest); background is equal parts black anddark rusty-orange colors; tsumugi is a light fabric, minimally textured to the touch; same on both sides.
DESIGN NOTES: Note that the colored portions are rendered by tiny mesh-looking thread configurations (see close-up).
