Fabric History/Pedigree: Japanese vintage kimono silk fabric pieces of deadstock fabric from the 1960's; Originally for making furisode formal kimono.
Fabric Type: Lightweight kimono silk with a slight sheen and thin burnished gold-lined borders and accents around motifs; fabric is slightly stiff, less drape due to all the designs printed on one side; Color of background is vermilion (a type of orange-red, said traditionally to keep away evil spirits, good luck); Motifs are on one side but visible on reverse; there are also interwoven stream lines throughout.
Motifs: Multiple large royal flower carts (13 inches / 33.02 cm at longest dimension, front to back) run lengthwise; also traditional stylized streams, waves, shibori(pattern, not actual) dotted fields, and oval type mon (crest) grids with both waves and sets of geometric mon (crest) shapes in groups.
Design Colors: Aside from the background vermilion, there are other various shades of dark red with gradations to vermillion and light oranges; other colors in designs include: dark plum, tangerine orange, other shades of green; also, black, olive-green and mustard; See close-ups.
