Fabric History/Pedigree: Japanese vintage kimono silk fabric pieces of deadstock fabric from the 1960's; Originally for making furisode formal kimono.
Fabric Type: Lightweight kimono silk with a slight sheen and thin burnished gold lined borders and accents around motifs; fabric is slighty stiff, less drape due to all the designs printed on one side; Color of background (though most of fabric is full of designs) is white and vermilion (a type of orange-red, said traditionally to keep away evil spirits, good luck); Motifs are on one side but visible on reverse.
Motifs: Peonies, chrysanthemums, royal flower carts(black), shibori(pattern, not actual) dotted fields, and oval type mon (crest) grids with oblong curved diamond shapes within each shape of the grid.
Design Colors: various shades of red with gradations to vermillion and light oranges; other colors in designs include: plum, shades of light lime to other hues of green; also, reds and mustard; See close-ups.
