Item Details and Description
Description: This particular tsumugi fabric is called Hisui Tsumugi, hisui means 'Jade-Green'. Fabric is solid dark jade-green throughout; the silk is of higher grade silk; this is probably made in Ohshima but the label did not indicate that so we're calling it simply hisui tsumugi. The darkness, color, and quality are the same as found in Ohshima Tsumugi fabrics.
FABRIC NOTE: This type of tsumugi is highly cherished among traditional Japanese fabric collectors and enthusiasts. Historically, tsumugi, being so labor-intensive to make, was felt (by Japanese) as highly expensive and worn only by aristocrats or the wealthy.
