Fabric History/Pedigree: 1960's, pieces received from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by click-pushing HERE.
Fabric Description: Japanese vintage silk kimono fabric used to make girls ceremonial kimono.
Fabric Type: Lightweight silk, print on one side.
Measurements: width =14.25 inches/ 36.2cm; Length= 1.5 Yards (1.37m).
Colors: backgrounds -- soft white; motifs -- many bright colors from dark fuschia and many different shades of orange to Vermillion, also colonial blue, yellow and dark green; motifs are all lined with metallic gold throughout. Note the mix of multiple brights as well as pastels, very ornate wide range of colors.
Motifs: traditional floral, including mostly chrysanthemum with some bamboo leaves; also, there are several instances of chirimen-like patterns within flowers as well as the mon grid in stylized shape used to connote water (even when other colors than blue)/
This was a very high-end fabric and would have been highly expensive used for top-drawer girls ceremonial kimono.
