Fabric Description: used from Arai-hari, Japanese vintage kasuri (ikat) cotton fabric; This type is technically called 'egasuri' (picture-kasuri) as it has birds in flight patterns along with the usual kasuri geometric shapes.
Fabric Type: Kasuri(ikat), Light-Medium Weight
Colors: background is indigo black with motifs in whites to grays. (see close-ups)
Motifs: Interesting and seldom seen combination of widely spaced birds-in-flight (sparrows?swallows?) with geometric designs,squares and rectangles in pairs.
This is a Japanese country vintage fabric called kasuri (also called ikat in Southeast Asia; ) ; Kasuri is a labor-intensive process where patterns are made by pre-dyed paste resistance and varying techniques used to create the sorts of patterns seen here.
