Fabric Description: Japanese vintage kasuri (ikat) cotton fabric; This type is technically called 'egasuri' (picture-kasuri) as it has image patterns along with the usual kasuri geometric or rounded shapes(described below).
Fabric Type: Kasuri(ikat), Light-Medium Weight, soft.
Colors: background is dark indigo black with motifs in off-whites grays, pink and burgundy reds (see close-ups)
Motifs: We see the stylized streams ( two parallel lines connected by curving lines),the arrow feathers in reds and whites and snowflake shapes caused by intersection of feather shapes; This is a very uncommon ikat pattern combination.
This is an used Japanese country vintage fabric called kasuri (also called ikat in Southeast Asia; ) ; Kasuri is a labor-intensive process where patterns are made by pre-dyed paste resistance and varying techniques used to create the sorts of patterns seen here.
