Item Details and Description

Fabric History/Pedigree: 1960's deadstock (never used, new off shelf but older) high quality Japanese fine silk, never used in outstanding condition; Found in two full pieces 2.5yds each; designs are uninterrupted and the pattern in picture above repeats throughout the full length. See pictures in sidebar for many closeups.

Fabric Description:  Excellent example of an almost lost-art, classical Japanese tie-dyed silk, called Shibori. Patterns are made by very small ties during the dyeing process. This gives the fabric a textured feel. Also, as is common with such higher end shibori pieces, an inner layer of thin gauze-like silk is attached to bottom. This backing can be carefully removed and used as well. Last picture shows reverse view of the backing silk.

Fabric Type: light-medium weight silk, slight chirimen crepe texture, good drape; higher quality Japanese silk of 60's.

Measurements: Width:14.5 inches / 36.8 cm ; Length:  2.5yds  /  2.2m
Colors: Orange and off-white.

Motifs: Vine with leaves running vertically the full length of fabric.

Condition: Outstanding for its age, colors still strong, clean,no stains or tears.

Notes: We believe this is suitable for framing or could be made into scarves,  accessories and other creative projects.
