Item Details and Description

  • Fabric History/Pedigree: 1960's, deadstock bolt of Japanese muslin (wool); (Deadstock means old inventory which is like new, but has been in storage, never been used)
  • Fabric Description: Japanese vintage  muslin kimono fabric used to make woman's under-kimono; 
  • Fabric Type: Light-medium weight muslin, slight drape; Japanese wool is smoother and tighter weave than many Western worsted wools. (Interesting discussion of the term worsted wool is here.)
  • Measurements: width=29 inches / 73.6cm; Length= 4.17yards / 3.83m
  • Colors: Background is mostly pink with pale aqua clouds; other colors are flowers in dark to lighter pastels fuschia and several shades of pink and aqua-blue (see close-ups).
  • Motifs: This is a common classic traditional Japanese motif using cherry blossoms, chrysanthemums, maple leaves and stylized clouds,mostly in pastel tones;
  • Condition: Excellent.
