Fabric History/Pedigree: 1930's-1970's solid dark navy blue cotton fabrics; Some of these are from *Arai-Hari (a Japanese specialist who deconstructs old kimonos and resells the fabrics or makes new items.), others are deadstock unsold fabrics.
| Cultural Note about Arai-Hari:
*Arai-Hari: Our pieces received from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner / reconstructer called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by click-pushing HERE.
Fabric Type: Most are Japanese-spun cottons dyed in traditional Japanese indigo and are mostly light-to-medium weight but very tightly woven.
Fabric Description: These cottons are mostly dark navy-blue and similar colored antique-vintage fabrics originally intended mostly for making kimono liners or utilitarian garments;older indigo-dyed pieces included when available. Ideal for hobbyist sashiko. (To see our other indigo-dyed 3 Lbs package, 110-CTN3, visit HERE.
Colors: Mostly dark indigo to dark navy blues; Sometimes we include dark blue-gray or dark-brown pieces when available; Solid, no patterns.
