Fabric History/Pedigree: 1960's fabric from kimono pieces from an Arai Hari (special Japanese kimono cleaner -- see info on Arai-Hari HERE from John Marshall, expert on Japanese textiles .)
This is a special lightweight tsumugi (pongee)silk from Japan. Details on this part of Japan's special pongee silk-making process can be found on the National Foundation for Promoting the National Costume of Japan website.
Fabric Description Details:
The design is same on both sides, black background with designs created by interweaving burgundy red, off-white/silver and pale aqua colors, creating flowers in rows; on closer examination there are tiny pattern lines of pixelated lines), caused by the interweaving process (see close-up;
NOTE ON PICTURES: Our two close-ups are intentionally over-exposed to better reveal the motif designs; also, our first large picture is closer in color of fabric as viewed in room light.
