Fabric Description: Deadstock (new, never used but from another era) light-medium weight meisen silk This is an early 1950s piece; Meisen is defined literally as 'common silk stuff'; and has grown in popularity in the last few years; it is a kasuri (ikat) type weave fabric with usually larger bold patterns and bright colors. See close-ups.
Fabric Type: Light Weight Meisen silk; due to weave has slightly textured feel, little sheen; same on both sides; Designs are typical of kasuri (ikat) but unknown figures of 2 parallelograms attached with a circular figure at corner; not sure what this is supposed to represent. These figures are 5 inches by 5 inches(12.7cm x 12.7cm) at broadest vertical-horizontal dimensions.
Colors: Background is rusty-burgundy with variations by interweaving of smaller versions of the larger designs visible; Reds, light orange sherbert color, and some dark fuschia; special fabric has very different looks and colors depending on the angle of view and type lighting; so, while it appears a solid rusty color from 90 degrees angle, seen from oblique views there are subtle shifts in colors which can be seen. This is due to the type of weave and dye process.
