Item Details and Description

This is a high quality 1970's light-medium weight deadstock tsumugi (pongee)wool blend (new but unsold stock) used for making a woman's kimono. Sold in 1 yard(91cm) lengths. If buying multiple lengths, shipped uncut.

Pedigree: This is what is called deadstock -- new/never used but aged, usually from store or company inventory or recyclers. Rolls such as this were turned in to recyclers by businesses or families in the past within Japan; This one is 95% Japanese wool, tightly woven (worsted feel) with slightly textured feel (not rough); 5%Nylon; found still in  original bindings and labels, Label listed as "Mingei"(Folk Art) Shumi(Hobby) Tsumugi(Pongee).

Description: The fabric design is mostly on one side but parts of interweave are visible on reverse; background is very dark blue, one shade less than navy blue in regular room light; designs are red (with some off-white), of type designs found commonly in older Japanese traditional kasuri (ikat) -- but this fabric is NOT kasuri dyed; Kasuri-type designs: arrows, various marks, running evenly in rows configuration length-wise. Our pictures are taken from lengthwise being top to bottom.

Condition: EXCELLENT, remarkable condition for its age, Like new.
