Fabric History/Pedigree: Pieces received from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by click-pushing HERE.

Fabric Description:  Lightweight thinner meisen silk,  translucent,  is estimated from the 1930s-1950s; Meisen is defined literally as 'common silk stuff'; and has grown in popularity in the last few years; Meisen from that period are usually larger bold patterns and bright colors; fabric softer than most other meisen of this piece; recommended for making scarf or accessories; please see close-ups.

Fabric Motif:

Design is of large diamond shapes in diagonal lattice array; the background is black and the color in the diamond shapes is a deep coral blue; Largest peonies are 7 inches /  17.78 inches at largest dimension; Within the lines of the lattice there are muted green strokes;  Note the pairs of horizontal bands/strokes that are brighter than the rest; other colors used in the figures as follow: yellow, burgundy-red and silver-gray; As is typical in Meisen, note the impressionistic fuzzy edges of shapes/lines; patterns same on both sides; this particular meisen has only a slight sheen and is much softer than many of the other meisens we see from this period.

Recommended for making scarf or accessories.
