ABOUT THIS PAGE:

Communication is at the heart of most every human endeavor. As a web site catering to customers from all over the world we know how important it is to have good translation tools. In fact, since 1998 we've been monitoring and trying out the various machine translation tools out there. What we have here is our recommended choices, depending on the task. We are offering our opinions on these, but are open to include other sites/tools if they are pointed out to us and turn out to be worthwhile in our humble opinion. Again, these are just our views, FWIW:

Background & Word to the Wise:

We have used and researched a number of computer-based (automatic) translation softwares. We even had one on our site for a year. What needs to be remembered is that the science of machine translation is great -- and getting better all the time -- but computer-generated translations still can come up with some very un-human expressions. However, most language pair translations (ex: English-French is a 'pair') give one enough of a sense to comprehend and communicate.

We stress that in using a machine translation to communicate with someone (as in an email), PLEASE forewarn them that the email they are about to read is machine generated, with apologies for the lack of perfection of their native tongue -- some folks get upset when their beloved language is perceived to be 'abused'. Just a word to the wise.
