§ IMPORTANT COUNTRY NOTICES & CAUTIONS:

  • TARIFFS, VAT, IMPORT FEES etc.:

Before you commit to buying anything please be sure you know the laws of your country concerning import tariffs, duties and restrictions. We cannot always be aware of each country's peculiar requirements. We strongly suggest that -- to avoid problems or unexpected expenses(duty etc)-- be sure that the item you are buying will not be subject to any special import duties etc in the receiving country, or that you are prepared to pay those charges.
  • CANADA: Received from customer, bought by-pound fabric shipped by UNITED PARCEL SERVICE, December, 2004:

Total paid above for customs and other import fees was Canadian $ 84.55 (ca.US$69.00).

Yoko Trading Note regarding above Canadian experience:

We have not had this report for same packages shipped to Canada via US Postal system. In fact a few regular Canadian customers have told us that they ALWAYS use postal, as UPS shipped packages seem to incur maximum fees when going through customs.

  • ITALY: Received from customer, bought US$200.00 of by-pound fabric in July, 2002:

They not only charge 20 percent of IVA, which is the state tax, but also 14 percent in fabric tax (?) and 17 percent in customs processing charges.

  • UNITED KINGDOM: Beginning in 2004 we've noticed an increase in comments from our British (UK) customers that they are being assessed more in VAT and import fees than previously. As this seems to be inconsistent, we have no hard info on the present rates. Please contact your local VAT/Postal/Import authorities to learn the latest rates.

    U.K., JUNE 2005:

Customer reported following for order of 20lbs Silks A Package ,
and 10lbs of cottons C Package"
    ...

...the cottons did not get duty.

...It (20A silks) was £19.07 import duty, £31.15 for VAT and £8 for clearance fee. Total £58.22
(
about US$98.00 for a US$200.00 valued shipment of 20lbs silk/silk blends, none on cotton)

§ IMPORTANT US POSTAL SERVICE CHANGES AFFECTING INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS (May 14, 2007):

Effective May 14, 2007 the US Postal Service has ELIMINATED SURFACE (VESSEL) grade service for international shipments. This means that the less expensive (often half as much) rate is simply not possible. Items weighing under 4Lbs(US) may go what is called International First Class Mail. This is still much more expensive than previous International Economy (surface/vessel). While there was a great deal of complaint from US businesses large and small, to no avail.

We will continue to ship anywhere that the US Postal Service delivers. We will also continue to provide quotations to international customers prior to processing their orders. We regret this inconvenience and added expense, but are powerless to do anything about it.

To see what the US Postal Service has to say about all this, including new rate tables etc, please click HERE.
