Artists' Showcase -- a service of Yoko Trading

Mona Soyak:

In the course of looking around at blogs etc for things about vintage Japanese kimonos, culture etc., (which we do on a regular basis), we came across some gorgeous cards made using kimono themes. For us the feel of the way these particular cards were done had more of a simpler *wabi-sabi feel and simplicity to it than other cards we've seen. (*Note: wabi-sabi is a Japanese idiom and has no direct translation. For a nice summary with references please refer to the on-line encylopedia, Wikipedia by clicking HERE.). We decided that our visitors might also enjoy seeing them so we contacted Mona who gave us the following bio/background and permission to post her work here:

...We used to live in Yokohama and Tokyo for 12 years and our daughters grew up there (6 years in the late 80's and 6 years recently). We moved back to the US in 2007. We were there for my husband's business and just love Japan. I started collecting vintage kimono pieces while living there, and started my web-business when we returned to North Carolina. I truly enjoy making my greeting cards, and take care in cutting each design by hand before placing it onto the greeting card.
Please check out my daughter Filiz's website, and see and read what an impact Japan has had on her artwork: www.filizsoyak.com
Thanks again,
