We are pleased to open our Artists' Showcase on yokodana.com. We showcase here all invited professional artists, designers, interior decorators and artisans who use Japanese textiles and arts in their work. While our preference is for vintage Japanese textiles used in creative ways by contemporary artists and designers, we will consider other medium artists using traditional Japanese aethetics or themes in their work.

The artists/designers retain all rights and there are no fees of any kind involved (nor any planned), as this is provided as a public service, courtesy of Yoko Trading. We average 50,000+ separate visitors per month, so artists' work will get considerable exposure.

If you use traditional Japanese textiles, arts or aesthetics in your professional creative and design work and wish to be considered for inclusion, please write to Yoko Lewis for details.

We also wish to have a place where our customers or visitors can share their creative work, or their stories. We offer this space of our site for your stories or samples of your personal handicraft involving Japanese textiles. While those we list here are assuredly artists , this section is for those who are not primarily professional artists but whose work and input are relevant to the themes of this site.

Background: From the earliest days of our web business we have been getting unsolicited and wonderful -- often passionate -- letters from both customers and regular visitors to our site. Many of these emails have told us a story of how the writer came to love Japanese aesthetics, culture, kimono, textiles -- or whatever. Others tell us of how they've decorated their house or office with Japanese textiles, while sometimes we get pictures of someone's spouse, child or grandchild wearing something we've sold them. We also get what we like to call 'textual postcards', where someone writes about their own love for some aspect of Japanese culture or aesthetics.

So...we decided to add a place on the site for these 'stories', or, simply a place to share, be it in words or pictures. If you have a passion for things Japanese, and want to share it with others here, please write to Yoko Lewis for details.
