This is a piece of light-medium weight deadstock silk ( new but unsold stock) from the 1950's-60's called tsumugi; tsumugi is a type of Japanese pongee; usually tsumugi indicates the use of more natural coloring without too much dyeing. As a result, the tsumugi tend toward darker and earth tones; This piece has a definite blurred look of the motifs more commonly seen in kasuri (ikat) indigo cotton weaves; Fabric is smooth to the touch but with minimal sheen; Color is an interesting (hard to capture in small web photo), with a color that is a sort of light-cocoa with specks of brown, motifs in olive green and dark olive green and light patches of white (Please see close-ups). Condition: EXCELLENT --Excellent for its age, like new.
