This is a fine, light weight Japanese silk from the 1930's or 1940's; This is deadstock, meaning new off the shelves, just older; This type silk was made for use in creating a nicer grade woman's kimono; the silk is a great example of the better silks made in the pre-war period in Japan. The fabric is actually black in background but the combination of vertical waves and horizontal lines configure to give it more of a dark burgundy-black appearance; The 3 different repeat 2 and a half times in the 1.5yds(1.37m); the colors of the motifs are blue, mustard and a plum color with white edges. While this fabric is light and delicate, it has a slight drape but is still intact and strong; Note also that the print is done to mimic kasuri weave with it's blurred appearances give it a more traditional feel as well. Clean and recommended for creative uses in making quilts, scarf, clothing accessory, etc.
