This offering is 1 piece of Japanese vintage cotton fabric called kasuri (also called ikat in Southeast Asia), acquired in the Kurume area of Kyushu, Japan; this piece is estimated from the 1980s or a bit earlier; Fabric is dark indigo blue with light blue designs which are vertical waves running lengthwise; intermitten spots of aqua, yellow & light red or pink (see close-ups); This is deadstock (never used, just older)and is still firm. This piece is different from all our other kasuri offerings because it is lighter, has apparent 'skip-weaving' making the fabric more porous and translucent that almost any other vintage kasuri. The
patterns seen in kasuri are made by pre-dyeing paste resistance
and varying techniques used to affect warp & weft, differences
which lead to the sorts of patterns seen here.
NOTES: 1. Please note that colors vary from computer to computer; please complement color of pictures with our text descriptions. |
