This is a piece of light weight Japanese silk from the 1980's, taken from a splendid lady's kimono done in shibori tie-dyeing and with elastic crepe (chirimen) silk, the type usually seen in obiage (special sashes) but also in certain select higher end woman's kimono; Fabric is from a lady's kimono which was taken apart and cleaned in the past; This chirimen (crepe) can be stretched slightly due to the extent of the corrugation caused by the thick shibori; Colors are very light pastels in color gradation transitions(similar to bokashi), predominantly light shades o lavender, aqua blues and light fuschia to pinks; One side is more lavender, the other more light pastel blues (noticeable in the close-ups). The part of the fabric which has the shibori is interwoven with the traditional geometric diagonal maze-like design along with some chrysanthemums. Overall condition is excellent, like new: fabric is clean but there are some minor needleholes from the shibori and from taking original kimono part -- insignificant; only stain is an over-dye of the light mustard color (shown in close-ups). Fabric still intact and very strong; Excellent example of the artistry of traditional Japanese textiles. Recommended for various creative projects, scarf, clothing or accessory design;
