This is a piece of light weight deadstock silk blend ( new but unsold stock, fabric composed of silk and mock-silk synthetics); fabric is from the 1980's, very high quality silk blend*

*Background info: As Japan's economy expanded dramatically from 1960's to the 1990's the demand for natural silks also grew, making authentic natural silks increasingly expensive; because of this, the Japanese textile makers began experimenting with a wide variety of blends, using silk in different combinations with other fabrics; some of these fabrics are so good that even knowledgeable people have trouble telling the difference -- short of a burn test. The colors are gradation and flow from an almost cobalt blue to light gray-blue; motifs are a background of field grass with flowers (Cosmos flowers and bellflowers); The flowers are in white, dark lavender, rusty reds; motifs are on both side.

Condition: EXCELLENT --Excellent for its age, like new; suitable for all manner of artistic or design projects.
