DESCRIPTION: This exquisite vintage Japanese kimono sash is called an obi; This style of obi is the most luxurious and prized type sash called a maruobi; this maruobi has the same fullness of heavily woven silk with embroidered design on both sides for the full length. Measures 12 7/8" wide X 145" (inches) with repeat motifs of royal flower cart, stylized pine branches (different colors), royal flower cart and many types of flowers (peonies,chrysanthemums cherry, plum and other flowers, all in traditional style; While most every space if replete with embroidery, the dominant background colors are light tan and cream-tan backgrounds; Gold is a predominant color, with orange-red and burgundy tones secondare; there are also some burnished golds and silver, as well as geometric; This piece is embroidered front and back as shown left, for full length of over 145 inches (4.8+ yards). Counting both sides, if taken apart, this is over 9 yards of fine embroidered silk total surface yardage. This is a very heavily embroidered piece, commonly used as table runner but there are many other possible uses (see book references below). Pictures here don't do this one justice either. CONDITION:
