Some
Personal Background:
YOKO
TRADING (yokodana) is above all a family business owned by Yoko Lewis. Yoko Trading, which was called "Lewis Marketing,
Inc." for many years, is itself the brainchild of Yoko Lewis.
This is her story:
- Yoko is the
third generation of a family in rural Japan which has been buying,
selling & collecting Japanese art & antiques for almost
100 years. Growing up as she did, she was surrounded by beautiful
traditional Japanese artwork, textiles and collectibles. In addition
to all the knowledge passed on to her from her father & grandfather,
Yoko also has inherited a passion for these traditional arts and
textiles of Japan, and takes great pleasure in making these things
available to more people around the world.
In
1989 she realized her dream and opened up an Export-Import business
based in the USA, making good use of her family's network in Japan.
As the influence of the internet grew, she knew she had to 'get on
board', so in 1998 the web site was created and she brought her brother
on board to run the Japan office. That was the year that "Yoko
Trading" became www.yokodana.com ( also known as, yokotrading.com)
. Having staff in Japan and the USA --family at that -- most often
eliminates the usual 'middle-men', so thus she can offer many unique
& high quality items at most reasonable prices. (To see pictures

- In addition
to the web site devoted to the sale of special Japanese vintage
kimono, fabric and antiques, in the past Yoko has shown at trade
shows such as The
Triple Pier Expo, Pier 88 and The
Metropolitan Vintage Fashion & Antique Textile Show
both in New York City, Renningers
Mid-Winter Classic Antiques & Collectors Show , King
of Prussia, Pennsylvania, Brimfield Week in Sturbridge, Massachussets,(Vintage
Fashion and Textile Show), as well as The
Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza, (Philadelphia
Area). Beginning in the fall of 2006 we will no longer do any of
these shows and will instead have venues at cultural fairs (Cherry
Blossom Festival Philadelphia), street fairs etc. Details
will be posted on our blog
whenever we will be at any of these new venues.

Your website YokoDana.com has earned a coveted spot in the
2007 Edition of thepurplebook:
The Definitive Guide to Exceptional Online Shopping....We
have combed through thousands of e-commerce sites , and have handpicked
only those that best meet the wants and needs of the modern shopper.
Not one site has been paid to be listed, nor been shown any undue
preference, as we believe objectivity is the key to earning consumer
confidence.
Hillary Mendelsohn, Publisher
From
Publishers Weekly
Think of it as a Google for shoppers. Marketing consultant
Mendelsohn and her colleagues have poured over tens of thousands
of e-commerce Web sites and come up with a whopper of a directory
listing their favorites, which they arrived at by using such
criteria as how easy a site is to use, how good its selection
is and how long it takes to download the site. The book divides
the offerings into 19 categories, including pets, gadgets,
maternity, entertainment and travel. Each entry lists the
site's URL, a review and information regarding shipping costs,
the availability of gift certificates and other particulars.
The reviews are not all positive-e.g., Beauty.com's site is
"confusing," and VillasOfTheWorld.com uselessly
divides accommodations as either "First Class,"
"Deluxe" or "Luxurious"-which helps give
the author and her team credibility. The sleekly designed
book brims with helpful cross-references and hints for getting
the most out of an online shopping experience.

Retail
Locations:
We
once had 3 retail locations in Southeast Pennsylvania USA. However,
as our web business grew it became increasingly difficult to do both
web and 'brick & mortar' stores well. So, just when larger dot-coms
were closing in droves, we went all-web in August of 2000. We
now sell world-wide, having sold our kimonos, fabrics and antiques to
customers in the following places:
- Australia
- Austria
- Bahrain
