This is a most unusual yukata fabric. While we at first thought of the cartoon character Popeye, we ruled it out; The design is of sailor faces in bubbles as well as various size bubbles in solid black, white or partial black/white; Fabric is white and black, with the hiragana letters (phonetic Japanese alphabet for Japanese words) wa,ka,ma,tsu and mo. There are place names Wakamatsu (in Yokohama), so perhaps this is related to some port-related sea festival.(Note: If anyone knows, please drop us a line.) We have a full bolt if someone wants the whole thing, for US$38.00, but after the first panel is sold this lightweight fabric is offered in minimum 14.5 inch X 1.5 yard (36.9cm X 1.37m) long pieces of deadstock cotton (new but unsold stock) estimated from the 1970's; This is a cotton originally was intended to be used to make a kimono ; Fabric is strong, like new, still firm; colors have not faded, looks as if it was made yesterday.
