This is
a piece of Japanese vintage fabric called tsutsugaki
(def:rice paste resist free-style drawn by hand, with tube).
Motifs are family crest (mon) in upper-right corner and flowers.The piece was probably a futonji (mattress cover) top
and is made from 3 panels, hand-sewn together; total measurements
are: 36" X 68"(91.4cm X 1.73m); Estimated as from later Meiji Era (1866-1912), probably first decade of 20th Century.
Colors:
Black with aged off-white motifs;
CONDITION: There are areas of the white motifs where stains are visible and the hole is shown in close-up; Fabric is light and recommended for display though most of it could be used in creative applications as fabric is strong in most areas; Suitable for display in office or home, particularly with Japanese/Asian theme inner decor.
