DESCRIPTION:

This is a piece of Japanese vintage fabric called tsutsugaki (def:rice paste resist free-style drawn by hand, with tube). Motifs are family crest (mon) in upper-right corner and flowers.The piece was probably a futonji (mattress cover) top and is made from 3 panels, hand-sewn together; total measurements are: 36" X 68"(91.4cm X 1.73m); Estimated as from later Meiji Era (1866-1912), probably first decade of 20th Century.

Colors: Black with aged off-white motifs;

CONDITION: There are areas of the white motifs where stains are visible and the hole is shown in close-up; Fabric is light and recommended for display though most of it could be used in creative applications as fabric is strong in most areas; Suitable for display in office or home, particularly with Japanese/Asian theme inner decor.

Recommended for collectors, Japanese textile historians and artists/decorators.
